Windows you should consider buying for your English home in the UK in 2021

When it comes to making the right choice of windows, you need to have in mind that the window style could either make or break the finishing of your home.

The wrong window style or design equals a disappointing result. So, it would be best if you took caution because you don’t want to lose your property’s value because of a wrong window.

However, when making choices, there are a few factors you should consider and chew over before going for any window style. These factors will come to play in both cases where you are building the home from scratch or simply renovating an existing home. Some of these factors your choice should be dependent on include;

  • The style of your home. Is your home a contemporary or traditional style UK home?
  • How old is the house? Is it a periodic or modern house?
  • What does the home exterior look like? Is it finished with bricks, stones, or claddings?
  • What’s your budget? How much are you willing to spend on buying new windows?
  • What window types do surrounding houses in your area feature? Do you feel the need to blend in with the others?

Having considered these aspects of your home, you will have a clearer understanding of what you want your new windows to look like. From that, we can talk about the best and trendy window types you can choose for your UK home. Take a look:

Sash windows

This is one of the oldest and most commonly used windows in the UK, yet, they still maintain that uniqueness. Sash windows are built using two sashes that overlap each other. The bottom sash is made to slide upwards over the top sash to allow the window to open. But, you can also find sash windows where the top one is designed to slide downwards to open the window instead. Sash windows could also be called Vertical sliders windows.

They could be made of Aluminum, timber, or uPVC. These design options are dependent on the finishing you intend to give the windows. Sash windows will fit perfectly over period UK homes or traditional-style homes.

Velux Windows

These windows are actually named skylights or roof lights. However, since the Velux brand is one of the most well-known brands to make this window, it has become widespread to refer to it as Velux Skylights. I specifically love this window in cases where improving air or light inflow is essential. They are fantastic to handle this and are commonly placed in rooftop structures, orangeries, or conservatories.

They are best made available in timber or uPVC materials. They should also be fitted with glazers (safety glazing insulators) to permit better warmth on the inside. You could also plan to use blinds with these windows, and they will blend in easily with any décor pattern.

Casement windows

Regardless of the home style, casement windows are the most popularly used windows in the UK. This is because they are very versatile and flexible in fitting different homes. They comprise two casements that open outwards and are hung by the side, top, or bottom by using window hinges. Casements hung from the top are the most used, and they allow better ventilation without you having to suffer from rain getting into your house.

They could also be made of uPVC or timber. Casement windows are excellent ventilators, and they are available in various designs and colors to blend into different home styles.

Flush casement windows

Similar to the casement windows, but unlike them, they have a different pattern of hanging. Here, the part of the windows built to open will sit flush with the window frame. Hence, it is referred to as a flush casement.

They are more of a traditional style window, but they could be used in contemporary homes because they appear clean and sophisticated. This window is very efficient and suitable for improving ventilation like the standard casement windows.
